Amari Rodgers shines in season opener

Clemson verbal commitment Amari Rodgers got his senior season underway last week and put on a show.

“It was special. It was great to get back on the field,” Rodgers told The Clemson Insider. “When the ball kicked off I was like oh man. I just did what I had worked hard for all summer and balled out.”

Rodgers found the end zone three times during the big victory and showed why he is one of the top receivers in the nation.

“I had five receptions for 105 yards and a 62 yard punt return for a touchdown. I had a 50 yard touchdown reception and a 32 yard touchdown reception,” he said.

Rodgers injured his shoulder, but it is nothing that will keep him off the field.

“It is nothing to worry about. It was a grade one AC joint injury. I will be playing this week. I am perfectly fine,” said Rodgers.

The All-American was excited to get the news of A.J. Terrell’s commitment to the Tigers.

“It was awesome. I wasn’t on social, but got a text message in our group message we have. He said I’m officially a Tiger and I went straight to Twitter to see,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers had been one of the guys recruiting the 5-star to join the Tigers.

“This was a big step for our class. I stayed on him since we all went to camp together in June. We have been on him since,” said Rodgers.

Who are the prospects Rodgers is still recruiting for the Tigers?

“That would probably be Xavier and Maleek, also Drew Singleton. I think we have a chance on all of them,” he said.

Rodgers plans to be a frequent visitor to Death Valley this season.

“I will be at the first home game and at four other games,” he said.

How excited is Rodgers to watch Clemson start the season next weekend at Auburn?

“I am super excited. Football is back. Now that it is back I will be able to watch all the games and keep my eyes on my future teammates,” he said.

Rodgers has some big goals for his senior season.

“I want to repeat as state champs and repeat as Mr. Football. I want to be the Gatorade Player of the Year and break a few records. I want to be one of the best to come through here,” he said.
