5-star IMG tackle plans to visit Clemson

IMG Academy 2018 five-star defensive tackle Taron Vincent was a key contributor in his team’s 26-7 win over Grayson on Saturday night. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound junior was virtually unblockable and a big reason why Grayson rushed for just 34 yards in the game.

The Clemson Insider was on hand at Grayson High for the contest, and caught up with Vincent afterward.

“It was great,” Vincent said of the game. “We played great as a team. Everybody hustled to the ball and made plays.”

One of the most impressive plays Vincent made occurred in the second quarter. Grayson threw a screen pass to the running back, who may have scored had Vincent not chased him down from behind.

“I just hustled to the ball,” Vincent said. “That’s what the coaches teach us to do every day in practice.”

Vincent’s size and athleticism are a couple of the reasons he holds more than two dozen offers.

Right now, two of those schools are recruiting him particularly hard.

“Ohio State and Florida State,” Vincent said.

Vincent is roommates with 2018 Clemson linebacker commitment Mike Jones, who has done a lot of recruiting on Vincent.

“He’s always in my ear, telling me to call to the coaches and talk to the coaches,” Vincent said. “He’s telling me this ‘18 class can be big if we get everybody coming, and stuff like that.”

Vincent said he “most definitely” plans to visit Clemson.

What is Vincent looking forward to seeing when he makes the trip?

“The D-line coach, the coaching staff, player atmosphere, seeing the school and the academics,” Vincent said.

As it stands now, Ohio State and Florida State are the leaders for Vincent.

“I like coach (Larry) Johnson, the D-line coach from Ohio State,” Vincent said, “and coach (Odell) Haggins, the D-line coach from Florida State. I like how they coach.”

Vincent is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 1 player in Florida, the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle and the nation’s No. 14 player overall in the class of 2018.
