Barnes is ready to take next step as a leader

Clemson pitcher Charlie Barnes spoke with the media on Friday as the Tigers began fall practice at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Barnes said he is ready to step up and take over Clate Schmidt as one of the leaders on the pitching staff. Clemson, who won the ACC Tournament Championship last spring, returns most of its pitching from last season. Barnes was the only pitcher on the staff to go from start to finish as one of the three weekend pitchers.

Barnes talks about what he learned as a starter last season, his role on the team and what the expectations are for the 2017 season.
