4-star Florida LB having strong season

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) four-star linebacker Rocky Shelton is having a fine season for St. Thomas Aquinas.

Shelton, a 2018 prospect, is averaging almost eight tackles a game. He notched 15 tackles against Bishop Gorman on Sept. 30, when he was named Player of the Game by MaxPreps.

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Shelton about his season.

“It’s going really good,” Shelton said, “personally and on a team level.

“I didn’t realize I had that many (tackles against Gorman) until later. I was just doing what we practiced to do. It feels good to be able to execute what the coaches plan and have success doing it.”

Shelton’s long offer sheet is highlighted by Auburn, Duke, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, N.C. State and Wisconsin.

Shelton is a big fan of Clemson and head coach Dabo Swinney, and Clemson has shown interest.

“I’ve gotten a few letters from them,” Shelton said.

Which schools are recruiting Shelton the hardest right now, though?

“Duke, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Penn State,” Shelton said.

Shelton said he doesn’t have any leaders in his recruitment right now.

“I’m just letting the process play out,” he said.

“I want to attend a school with a good business program. I also want to be somewhere that has a good football program,” Shelton added.

The 6-foot, 205-pounder plans to see Clemson’s game at Florida State on Oct. 29. He will also attend Miami’s game against North Carolina this weekend, and has already visited Penn State.
