Clemson makes cut for 5-star DB

Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter five-star cornerback Derrik Allen included Clemson in a list of his top 10 schools on Twitter on Sunday, with Cal, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State also making the list.

Clemson was one of the first schools to offer Allen in June 2015 following his performance at the Dabo Swinney Camp. Allen, one of the top prospects in the 2018 class, now holds over 30 offers.

Allen last visited Clemson in March for Junior Day, and Clemson defensive backs coach Mike Reed recently visited Allen, as well.

As a junior this season, Allen notched 37 tackles, 22 assists, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, and seven pass breakups on 35 targets. He allowed just 13 receptions all year, and only two of 20 or more yards.

As a sophomore in 2015, Allen had 50 tackles, 12 pass breakups and two picks.

There is a lot Allen likes about Clemson.

“I like the campus and facilities,” Allen told The Clemson Insider in November. “Has a real family environment. I like that all the coaches seem to really care about the players. The players seem to really like being there.”

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 5 prospect in Georgia, the nation’s No. 3 cornerback and the nation’s No. 21 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
