5-star QB commit lands big honor

Clemson commitment Trevor Lawrence was named the all-classification player of the year in the state of Georgia by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday.

The Cartersville High School five-star quarterback led his team to a second consecutive state championship as a junior this season, completing 62 percent of his passes for 3,904 yards and 51 touchdowns against just nine interceptions.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pounder is only 2,477 yards passing and 40 touchdown passes shy of breaking the Georgia career records of 13,077 and 159 held by Clemson and former Gainesville quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Lawrence, the consensus No. 1 prospect in the 2018 class, committed to Clemson on Dec. 15, choosing the Tigers over Georgia.

Overall, Lawrence has thrown for more than 10,000 yards and 118 touchdown passes in his three seasons as a starter. He has a 42-2 win-loss record in that span.
