Clemson offer would be ‘game-changer’ for North Carolina D-lineman

Fayetteville (N.C.) Trinity Christian defensive tackle Zovon Lindsay excelled as a sophomore this season, earning first-team all-state honors after finishing with 51 tackles, seven sacks and nine tackles for loss.

The Clemson Insider caught up with Lindsay about his accomplishment and the latest in his recruitment.

“It was a great feeling,” Lindsay said of being recognized as an all-state performer. “All the hard work I put in during the offseason paid off, and a lot of sophomores don’t get the opportunity to make all-state.”

The 2019 prospect picked up an early offer, his first, from N.C. State on Nov. 14.

“They’ve been showing a lot of interest,” Lindsay said.

Clemson and Virginia Tech are also showing interest, he said.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder placed himself on Clemson’s radar with an impressive performance at the Dabo Swinney Camp in June, and the Tigers have been tracking him since.

Lindsay visited Clemson twice this season for the Louisville and Syracuse games, and he hopes to get back on campus over the offseason.

“I plan to go to Virginia Tech’s Junior Day,” he said, “and I will probably try to go to N.C. State and Clemson sometime this offseason.”

For Lindsay, who possesses desirable size and athletic ability at his position, it’s not a matter of if more offers will come. It’s just a matter of when.

And if Clemson pulls the trigger on an offer in the future, Lindsay said it would shake things up in his recruitment.

“Clemson would be a big game-changer,” Lindsay said. “Virginia Tech would be a big one also, but any other schools that offer would be a blessing.”

What’s next for Lindsay now that is his season is over?

“I’ve just been working with my trainer, trying to get bigger, stronger, faster, and working on my technique,” he said. “I will be trying to plan some visits to some schools before the summer.”

Lindsay is a physical, smart player who knows how to take advantage of his tools. He helped Fayetteville to a 9-2 record and trip to the state semifinals this season.
