Brunswick (Ga.) four-star offensive tackle Warren McClendon received his eighth verbal offer when Clemson pulled the trigger on Tuesday morning. Clemson assistant coach Danny Pearman, who recruits south Georgia for the Tigers, delivered the news.
The Clemson Insider caught up with McClendon, one of the top prospects in the 2019 class, to get his reaction.
“It means a lot,” McClendon said. “I’ve been up there a couple times, so it means a lot.”
McClendon carries other offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee.
What does McClendon know and like about Clemson?
“I know they move into new facilities in two weeks,” McClendon said. “They just won the national championship, and they hadn’t won in the past 30 years.”
McClendon is a fan of Clemson’s new $55 million football facility that will be completed at the end of this month.
“From what I heard, it’s going to be really nice,” he said. “The two things that really caught my attention was they’re getting a bowling alley and a barbershop in the new facility.”
The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder has visited Clemson and said it was one of his best experiences.
“It was fun,” he said. “One of my favorite visits I’ve been on.”
McClendon doesn’t have any early leaders, but named a couple of factors that will he will weigh heavily when making a decision in the future.
“No schools are really standing out,” McClendon said. “I’m just keeping my options open. The academics and the coaching staff will be important to me.”
McClendon is rated by 247Sports as the No. 25 prospect in the 2019 class, the No. 6 prospect in Georgia and the nation’s No. 3 offensive tackle.
He is a cousin of South Carolina co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach Bryan McClendon.
