Tigers staying in touch with 4-star Ohio lineman

Clemson, which will sign an offensive lineman from Ohio a week from tomorrow on National Signing Day, has its eyes on another O-lineman from the Buckeye State in the 2018 class.

After landing a pledge from Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier four-star offensive guard Matt Bockhorst last January, Clemson has been in contact with Portsmouth (Ohio) Sciotoville East four-star offensive guard Blaine Scott since the fall.

Scott made his first visit to Clemson for the Pittsburgh game in November, and Clemson is one of the schools he plans to see again before rendering a decision in the spring.

“So far I am scheduled to be at Cincinnati Thursday, Kentucky Saturday and Duke February 18th,” Scott told The Clemson Insider during a recent interview. “I will also be at Penn State, Michigan State, Clemson and a few other places I haven’t scheduled yet.”

Scott owns offers from Arkansas, Duke, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State, Pittsburgh and others among his nearly 30 total.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pounder won a pair of tickets to this month’s national championship game and witnessed the Tigers’ epic victory over Alabama in person.

Scott said he talked to Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell via text during the week of the title clash.

“Him and I texted a lot the week of the game just about life, how I was doing as well as himself and just other things,” Scott said.

Scott wants to further his relationship with Caldwell and find out more about Clemson when he gets back on campus.

“Just continuing to build my relationship with coach Caldwell,” Scott said, “and to learn more about the campus and academics at Clemson.”

Scott believes he could be close to receiving an offer from Clemson, and he would certainly welcome one.

“I feel as if Clemson is a school that just doesn’t hand out offers,” Scott said. “They like to get to know you and your family first. So I feel like as we continue to build a relationship, I will be on the verge of the offer.”

Penn State, Michigan State, Clemson, Kentucky, Duke, Illinois, Louisville and Arkansas are some of the schools Scott is hearing the most from.

He doesn’t have any leaders right now, but said his offseason visits will help him narrow his options.

“These spring visits will tell a lot,” he said.

Scott plans to announce a decision on May 5. He is rated by Rivals as the No. 14 prospect in Ohio and the nation’s No. 11 offensive guard.
