4-star IMG ‘backer wants to get back to Clemson

After totaling 234 tackles in his first two seasons, Charles Thomas is readying for a new challenge.

The Clemson Insider caught up with the 2019 four-star linebacker, who will finish his career at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., after transferring from Langston Hughes High in Fairburn, Ga.

“I have been at IMG for almost a month,” Thomas said. “I love it at IMG. It is a great campus, with great facilities, great coaches, great teachers and great players.”

Thomas is excited to compete with and against some of the country’s elite prep talent, and he thinks it will make him better as he prepares to play at the next level.

“It is awesome to train and compete with the players at IMG,” Thomas said. “Everyone has the mindset to grind and get better. It is all about pushing each other to get the best out of one another.”

Thomas, a top-100 prospect in his class according to 247Sports, totes early offers from Clemson, Auburn, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia among others. Clemson offered on June 1.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder last visited Clemson during the 2016 season, and said he wants to get back on campus.

“I’ll try to get to Clemson within a month or two,” Thomas said.

Thomas is excited to see Clemson’s recently completed football operations complex when he returns.

“Yes sir,” he said.

“Nothing specific,” Thomas added when asked what he’s most looking forward to seeing with the facility. “Just want to see it all.”

Thomas is still in the early stages of his recruiting process, but his first true game-day visit for the N.C. State contest in October made a good impression on him.

“I liked it a lot,” he told TCI afterward. “I enjoyed the fans and the family feel that I received from the staff. I loved the energy that the team had in the locker room. I can tell that Clemson is truly a family.”

Thomas attended Clemson’s spring game in 2016 and visited last August, as well.

He is rated by 247Sports as the No. 76 overall prospect and No. 4 inside linebacker in the 2019 class.
