Anderson (S.C.) T.L. Hanna quarterback Alex Meredith, one of the best at his position in the state, impressed Clemson quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter with his performance at the Dabo Swinney Camp last summer.
The Clemson Insider caught up with Meredith, who plans to camp at Clemson again this summer and hopes to show well again.
“Just trying to impress coach Streeter and coach Dabo Swinney as much as I can,” Meredith said. “That’s all I can do. So, I’m going to go out there and give it my best shot.”
Meredith, a 2019 prospect, burst onto the radar as a freshman in 2015 when he completed 232-of-336 passes (69 percent) for 3,369 yards and 37 touchdowns while rushing for 487 yards and four more scores.
His numbers weren’t as gaudy as a sophomore this season, though much of that can be attributed to a changed cast around him.
“We replaced our whole receiving corps and some of our O-line,” Meredith said, “so it was kind of hard.”
The 6-foot, 180-pounder is drawing early interest from schools, most notably Wake Forest right now.
“Wake Forest is probably showing me the most interest right now,” Meredith said. “They actually came to see me throw the other week.”
Meredith visited Clemson twice during the 2016 season for the Louisville and South Carolina games in October and November, respectively.
“It was awesome,” Meredith said of the visits. “The Louisville game was really hype at the end and the whole game, and the South Carolina game was just a beatdown. It was an awesome experience.”
Meredith will also camp at South Carolina, Wake Forest and North Carolina this summer.
Moving forward, he wants to keep getting better as a player and garner more attention from schools.
If the Tigers were to offer down the line, it would be a game-changer for the local standout.
“Receiving a Clemson offer would honestly be a dream come true,” Meredith said. “They just won the national championship, but growing up 15 minutes away, you kind of idolize Clemson a little bit, dream of playing there in front of 84, 85,000 people. It’d be awesome.”
