The Clemson Insider rounds up the latest recruiting news and notes surrounding the Tigers:
Nana narrows recruitment. Earlier this week on Tuesday, Stafford (Va.) North Stafford four-star offensive tackle and Clemson priority 2018 target Nana Asiedu released a list of his top 10 schools. Clemson, along with Penn State, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia Tech, LSU, Michigan and North Carolina made the cut.
Asiedu, a top-250 prospect by ESPN, top-200 prospect by Rivals and top-100 prospect by 247Sports and Scout, narrowed his recruitment by over half as he holds more than two dozen offers. However, the top 10 seems to signal that he is still a ways from making his decision.
Clemson is widely regarded as the leader for Asiedu and has been for some time. He named the Tigers as his favorite in the fall after attending Clemson’s marquee victory over Louisville in October and reiterated that recently following his visit to Clemson for Junior Day at the end of January. North Carolina, Penn State, Auburn and Virginia Tech are a few schools that appear the closest to Clemson as it stands now.
The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder is a consensus top-20 tackle nationally by the major recruiting services.
Asiedu is the third 2018 recruit in the past eight days to announce Clemson as a top school. On signing day last Wednesday, Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan Catholic five-star linebacker Teradja Mitchell put Clemson in his top 11 before Carrollton (Texas) Hebron four-star cornerback Verone McKinley put Clemson in his final nine last Saturday.
Update on Salyer. Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy 2018 five-star offensive guard Jamaree Salyer was one of two top-50 guards from Georgia at Clemson’s Junior Day, with Warner Robins-Houston County four-star Trey Hill.
Salyer, a consensus top-25 prospect and the consensus No. 1 offensive guard, made the trip with his parents. Clemson had wanted to get Salyer’s mother on campus, and she, as well as Salyer and his father, had a great time on the visit.
We recently spoke with Salyer, who had this to say about his Junior Day experience: “It was crazy. They really open your eyes to what it means to be a Clemson Tiger.”
Clemson has long posed to the biggest threat to Georgia for Salyer’s services, with Ohio State also involved. It will likely come down to a signing day decision.
We’ll have more from our interview with Salyer later today, so stay tuned.
New offer out. After watching Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal School 2019 four-star power forward Armando Bacot play on Saturday, Clemson extended an offer to him on Wednesday.
Bacot, the No. 53 player in his class according to 247 and No. 67 according to Rivals, told TCI that he “definitely” plans to visit Clemson at some point in the future.
“I know they have a good coaching staff,” Bacot said of Clemson, “and I know the school is a football school with a basketball program on the rise.”
The 6-foot-9, 225-pounder has other offers from Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, James Madison, Miami, Penn State, Richmond, St. John’s, UCF, VCU, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
