4-star Virginia standout talks Clemson offer

After attending his game last Saturday, Clemson followed up with an offer to Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal four-star power forward Armando Bacot on Wednesday.

The Clemson Insider caught up with the 6-foot-9, 225-pound sophomore about the offer and more.

“One of the assistants contacted my AAU coach after seeing me play Saturday,” Bacot said.

Bacot, a top-100 prospect in the 2019 class by Rivals and 247Sports, was excited to receive the offer. He likes the school from what he’s seen and heard, as well as the up-tempo pace the Tigers play with under Brad Brownell.

“I know they have a good coaching staff,” he said of Clemson, “and I know the school is a football school with a basketball program on the rise.”

UCF was first to offer Bacot in February 2016. Since then, he has drawn offers from Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, James Madison, Miami, Old Dominion, Penn State, Providence, Richmond, St. John’s, Virginia, VCU, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

Bacot identifies as a solid all-around big man who can grab boards, score from the post, knock down mid-range shots with consistency and hit free throws.

A couple of the in-state schools are recruiting him the hardest right now.

“I’m hearing the most from Virginia and Virginia Tech,” Bacot said.

Bacot has been to Virginia this season and will visit Duke on Saturday for the Blue Devils’ game against Clemson.

He “definitely” plans to check out Clemson down the road.

“I’ll be looking to see if it’s a good school and has nice fans and academics,” Bacot said.

Bacot is taking his time with his recruiting process in the early stages of it.

“I haven’t looked into my recruitment enough to know who stands out the most,” he said.

What will be important to him when deciding between schools in the future?

“Great school, good teammates and good coaches,” Bacot said.

Rivals rates Bacot as the No. 67 player nationally, while he is the No. 53 overall prospect, No. 14 power forward and No. 4 player in Virginia according to 247.
