Streeter has no idea who his starting QB will be

Brandon Streeter has no idea who his starting quarterback is going to be when reigning national champion Clemson takes to the field on Sept. 2 against Kent State. Right now, the Tigers’ quarterbacks coach is only worried about spring practice which begins on March 1.

Streeter, along with head coach Dabo Swinney and co-offensive coordinators Jeff Scott and Tony Elliott will have to find someone to replace two-time Heisman Finalist Deshaun Watson, who entered his name into the NFL Draft after the Tigers took down Alabama in the national championship game last month.

Of course, the Clemson coaches will be deciding between junior Kelly Bryant, redshirt freshman Zerrick Cooper, redshirt sophomore Tucker Israel and freshman Hunter Johnson. The quarterback battle is expected to carry into fall camp.

“Who are you going to get? Everybody is asking me that,” Streeter said. “I don’t know. They all have an opportunity, but I’m excited.”

Streeter says he is excited about the competition because none of the four men have to be a superstar like Watson was. The Clemson coach says they have superstars all around them.

“I think that is important,” he said. “They don’t have to make every single play. They just have to make great decisions and be able to distribute the ball and be accurate with it. If they do that, then we are going to be in good shape. There is no question.”

Some of the superstars Streeter is talking about are wide receivers Deon Cain, Ray-Ray McCloud, Hunter Renfrow, Cornell Powell, Trevion Thompson and Diondre Overton. There is also Tavien Feaster, C.J. Fuller and Adam Choice in the backfield. Granted, they all have to replace superstars themselves like wide receivers Mike Williams and Artavis Scott, tight end Jordan Leggett and running back Wayne Gallman, but all the names listed above have shown in the past what they are capable of when they were given the opportunity.
