Most people know Seth Beer as the 2016 National Player of the Year and one of the most elite players to play for Clemson Baseball. The Clemson Insider got the chance to talk to Beer about some of his personal interests that go beyond the field and found out some things people may not know about the sophomore.
Who’s your favorite MLB player and why?
Beer: “It’s a mixture between Ted Williams and Josh Hamilton. I love the way Ted Williams played the game with how he saw that strike zone and how he would take his walks when he needed to and get a hit based on his zone and all that stuff. But Josh Hamilton, I just love the way that he plays. I love that he’s a Christian because I’m a Christian and how he expresses himself and the way that he could just swing the bat. And just do unbelievable things was something that I just loved to watch as a kid.”
When you’re not playing baseball what are you doing?
Beer: “I’m playing video games with my friends. My roommates are baseball guys and we’re always competing on and off the field no matter what. It could be the silliest stuff like Mario Kart stuff like that. Just enjoying stuff like that. We love to compete all times during the day and it’s just a little outlet we can have with that.”
Do you have any hidden talents that most people don’t know about?
Beer: “I used to swim a lot when I was younger so sometimes I mess with the guys when we’re out the pool or something. Last year I was kind of like, ‘Hey I’ll race you,’ and I’d beat them on some occasions and kind of shock some kids.”
What’s your favorite movie?
Beer: “I love American Sniper. That’s one of my all-time favorite movies and I really think it’s just something I love. My grandfather was military so I can see the process and what it’s really like to really love your country and obviously playing with the United States this past summer was just something that you almost kind of added to that love for that movie.”
What has been your best memory at Clemson so far?
Beer: “ACC Championship. You can’t script something like that. Being able to compete against a team like Florida State who’s somebody that we go far back with and being able to get a win like that and just seeing all the hard work that we put in over the year and over that season to get to that point was just an incredible feeling.”
What is the one food you can’t live without?
Beer: “I mean I would say Chick-Fil-A. I love Chick-Fil-A. I’ll eat that every day of the week.”
Your pre-game playlist- what’s that like?
Beer: “My pre-game playlist. That’s going to be a mixture between Twenty One Pilots. It’s a huge mix though. I love I would say Future. Future’s new album is something and I like to listen to that. That what I listened to today’s new playlist so I guess we’ll be going with that in the future.”
How would your friends describe you?
Beer: “It’s funny because a lot of people see me as kind of serious and stuff on the field. But once I get off the field I was say people think I’m a goofball and just downright weird. I just love making people laugh and making myself laugh. Laughing off of dumb little things is just something I’ve always been like.”
