After a very solid 9-4 season, Georgia Tech is looking to keep improving and build upon what it was able to accomplish this past season. The Yellow Jackets have set themselves up with a decent recruiting class, but coaching will be the key.
Who they lost: Tech is only losing seniors, but it really isn’t losing much at all. Georgia Tech has a small number of five players going into the draft, with all of which being seniors. They will be losing defensive tackle and sack leader Patrick Gamble, who led GT in sacks with 7.5 last year. The Jackets will also be losing kicker Harrison Butker, who hit 15-of-17 field goals and all 46 extra points. The biggest loss is the graduation of three-year starting quarterback Justin Thomas.
Who is coming back: Georgia Tech has a lot of players returning this upcoming season. It will be returning leading tackler Corey Griffin, who had a total of 82 tackles last season. He was the Yellow Jackets man in the middle and will be a big player to be able to bring back. They are also returning leading rusher Dedrick Mills, who had 13 total touchdowns last season.
Recruiting class: Tech has a very solid class coming in of 24 players. These players are led by stud running back Bruce Jordan-Swilling, who is nationally ranked as the 17th best running back in this recruit class. He will definitely be able to step right in and help. Tre Swilling will also have an opportunity to be a key player for Georgia Tech, possibly being able to step in and surprise a few at cornerback. Overall this is a solid class of recruits.
2017 Schedule: Like other ACC teams, Tech has a solid upcoming schedule. They have a couple key games, one of which being opening week for them Sept. 4 against Tennessee. A win against the Vols would be a solid opening win. Also a key game for them is Nov. 18 against Duke … Expect Duke to be a good team next year, and a good test. Tech will play Clemson on Oct. 28 in Death Valley. The Tigers will have a week off prior to that showdown.
Projected finish: 7-6
