On Saturday afternoon, No. 9 Clemson clinched the series win over the Notre Dame with a 6-5 victory at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson.

Pat Krall started on the mound for the Tigers and sophomore Brooks Crawford came in to relieve him in the fifth inning and to earn the win.

After the game media spoke with head coach Monte Lee, Brooks Crawford, and second baseman, Jordan Greene. Here is what we heard:

“Well it was great to win the series today,” Lee said. “Very proud of my team. We jumped out early right there in the first with a big inning in the first inning. Scored a bunch of runs. Had a 5-1 lead and all of the sudden Notre Dame came right back.”

Starting with a leadoff double by Chase Pinder and back-to-back singles from Reed Rohlman and Seth Beer, Clemson batted through the lineup in the first inning and put four runs on the board to take an early lead.

“A couple miscues on our part and some good at-bats by their guys to take advantage of some of our mistakes put them right back in the game,” Lee said.

After managing to score a run in both the second and third innings, Notre Dame then put up three in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at five a piece. That’s when Brooks Crawford took the mound for the Tigers and pitched a scoreless 4 2/3 innings to halt Notre Dame’s momentum.

“I actually didn’t feel my best today, but I tried to compete as hard as I could for my team,” Crawford said after the game. “I have to give credit to my defense today. They stepped up when I needed them and I’m really proud of how we pulled it out today.”

Jordan Greene was certainly one of those players who benefited his team in the field. He made an incredible play running into the hole past second base, stopped a ground ball and executed a jump throw to get the batter out at first base.

“(Bradley) LeCroy (Clemson assistant coach) put me in a really good spot and moved me over before the play started,” Greene said. “The ball was hit and I thought Logan (Davidson) was going to get it for a second but then I realized he was far over so I just went after it.”

Centerfielder, Chase Pinder was also a help to his team, batting leadoff in Saturday’s game as he went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. He also gave the Tigers their sixth run with a sac fly, which ultimately won the game for the team.

“Honestly I’m more comfortable batting leadoff,” he said. “It’s a hard thing to do but you get a lot more pitches. I get to help my team out by seeing pitches and if I can get on base we have good hitters behind me that can get me in.”

Clemson improves to an overall record of 11-3 and now that winning the series is checked off for the team, they will shoot for getting the sweep in Sunday’s game at 1 p.m. at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
