Though the 2019 class of recruits from South Carolina doesn’t match the caliber of talent in the loaded 2018 in-state class, there are nonetheless a number of names worth knowing in regards to Clemson.

Four players from the state are ranked among 247Sports’ top 100 prospects for 2019: Anderson-T.L. Hanna five-star defensive end Zacch Pickens, Greer four-star linebacker Quack Cohen, Rock Hill-Northwestern four-star wide receiver Jamario Holley and Roebuck-Dorman four-star receiver Jacoby Pinckney.

Pickens, a top-10 prospect and the No. 1 strong-side end by 247, lists offers from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech among others. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder visited Clemson for the Louisville and South Carolina games last season, and visited South Carolina for its game against Western Carolina in mid-November.

A short drive away from Pickens’ hometown, Clemson has an advantage. Pickens may ultimately end up staying in state, but a team outside of it is arguably the top contender right now. Florida State was first to offer Pickens in November 2015, and he hasn’t hid about his interest in the Seminoles. He elected to attend Florida State’s junior day over Clemson’s on March 4.

Cohen is the next highest-ranked recruit from South Carolina by 247 at No. 47 overall and as the nation’s No. 2 inside linebacker. He doesn’t currently have any scholarship offers, but they’re coming. The 6-foot-1, 230-pounder was named a first-team member of the MaxPreps freshman All-American team in 2015, when he was one of the leading tacklers on a Greer team that went 11-1. He is drawing interest from programs in the Carolinas including Clemson and South Carolina.

Holley checks in one spot behind Cohen on 247’s rankings at No. 48 overall. Kentucky handed him his first offer in November 2015, and Florida State followed shortly after. Tennessee and South Carolina entered the fold with offers in August and September, respectively. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder competed at the Dabo Swinney Camp last June and is getting interest from Clemson.

Rounding out the in-state quartet in 247’s rankings is Pinckney, who also competed at the Swinney Camp last summer. The No. 14 wide receiver and No. 83 overall prospect picked up his first offer from South Carolina last June, visited the school during the season and attended the Gamecocks’ junior day in February. Pinckney collected his second offer from Virginia Tech in July, and has added others from Appalachian State, Duke and Wake Forest since.

Other names from the Palmetto State outside of the rankings to keep an eye on are North Charleston-Fort Dorchester offensive guard Kameron McCray, Central-Daniel offensive tackle Kahare Teasley and T.L. Hanna quarterback Alex Meredith.

McCray visited Clemson for the Pittsburgh game in November. Teasley visited for the Troy game in September, while Meredith visited on multiple occasions. Clemson and Wake Forest are showing interest in Meredith, who completed 232-of-336 passes (69 percent) for 3,369 yards and 37 touchdowns as a freshman in 2015.
