Clemson makes major move with 5-star OL

Five-star offensive lineman Jackson Carman made the long seven-plus hour trip from Fairfield, Ohio, to Clemson for his first visit on Monday.

It was well worth it for Carman, the nation’s No. 1-ranked offensive tackle in the 2018 class.

Carman (6-6, 290) spent the day on campus before departing early Tuesday.

“Everything about Clemson,” Carman told TCI when asked what he enjoyed about his visit. “The facilities, campus, weather, environment and most importantly the people.”

“Had a super long talk with coach Dabo (Swinney),” he added, “and just watching his energy at practice he just seemed like a great guy, and their whole staff seems really close and they love what they’re doing.”

Carman, who holds 40 offers, took in Clemson’s new football facility and liked what he saw with it as well.

“Amazing,” he said.

What did Carman hear from Swinney during his lengthy conversation with him?

“He was just telling me about himself and the program and how he recruits,” Carman said, “and he told me where I was on their board. They want me to come and start early and wish I was on their squad right now.”

Carman had been regarded a heavy Ohio State lean for some time and had declared the Buckeyes his leader. But after his visit to Clemson, he has a new No. 1.

The Tigers are on top right now.

“Just of the places I’ve been it’s stood out the most to me,” Carman said, “and I loved my visit.”

Carman is the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle and a top-10 overall prospect as rated by ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports.
