Clemson showing interest in strong Virginia kicker

Blacksburg (Va.) 2018 kicker Camden Wise made his third visit to Clemson over the weekend, arriving Sunday evening and staying through Monday afternoon.

Wise competed at the Dabo Swinney Camp last June and also attended a game in the fall.

“It went really good,” Wise said of his latest visit. “The facility is obviously very impressive.”

Wise said he particularly enjoys the people and atmosphere at Clemson.

“What stands out the most is the family atmosphere they have between everyone in their program,” he said.

Wise, who was voted by coaches as a first-team member of the VHSL Group 3A All-State football team in 2016, is getting interest from Clemson, Maryland and Wake Forest.

He was able to chat with Clemson special teams coordinator Danny Pearman, who wants to further evaluate him at the Swinney Camp again this summer.

“I talked to coach Pearman and he said that there is a good chance they will be looking at a 2018 kicker so to come to camp in the summer and compete,” Wise said.

Wise converted on 67 of 70 PAT attempts and seven of 11 field goal attempts as a junior last season, helping Blacksburg win the 3A state championship.

“My strengths are my field goals and kickoffs,” Wise said. “I’m doing both of those at a very high level right now.”

Wise also visited Old Dominion in late February and Charlotte on Saturday. He’s going to James Madison this Saturday.
