Elite 4-star has Clemson in top group with decision on horizon

Though he didn’t receive an invitation to The Opening Finals, four-star cornerback Myles Sims was one of the best at The Opening Atlanta Regional at Buford High School on Sunday.

The Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake standout was among the quickest defensive backs at the event and showed off his wide wingspan during 1-on-1s. He also recorded a Nike Football Rating of 115.59, the sixth-highest mark of all competitors.

The Clemson Insider spoke with Sims, a top-10 corner nationally by Rivals.com, afterward about his performance and recruitment.

“I feel like I did pretty well,” he said. “They only invited six athletes out of Atlanta (to The Opening Finals). I thought they would invite more, but it’s all good.”

Sims (6-3, 175) cites over 30 offers, including ones from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas and USC. Clemson offered back in May.

He is nearing a commitment decision.

“My recruiting’s going fine,” he said. “I’m looking to commit somewhere around April.”

Clemson is one of a handful of schools comprising his top group.

“Michigan, Clemson, Florida, Georgia and LSU,” Sims said when asked which schools he is considering.

Sims was teammates with 2017 Clemson signee A.J. Terrell at Westlake.

Sims said he likes the fact he fits the mold of corner Clemson targets.

“Clemson, they have LeAnthony (Williams) and they have A.J. Terrell,” Sims said. “They’re big on long corners, so they see me like that.”

Sims most recently visited Michigan earlier this month and the Wolverines are viewed as the team to beat by some in the recruiting industry.

He is rated by Rivals as the No. 7 prospect in Georgia, No. 8 cornerback and No. 51 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
