Thompson made big strides this spring

Outside of Ray-Ray McCloud, no Clemson wide receiver made bigger strides this spring than Trevion Thompson.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott raved about the redshirt junior all spring. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound wideout has now put himself in position for some serious playing time this coming fall.

Thompson concluded his great spring with a four-catch effort in last Saturday’s Orange & White Game, including a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tucker Israel.

“It was really the perfect play,” Thompson said. “I was reading the safety and we had a post coming behind the safety and the safety came down and Tucker read it well and hit he me.”

Last year, Thompson came on at the end of the season before breaking his wrist in the Tigers’ win over Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship Game. However, this spring, even though his wrist was protected with a wrap, he did not let the injury affect how he played.

““I did well,” Thompson said. “I ended the spring well. I had a good spring the whole time and I just wanted to capitalize off it. I feel like I did that.”
