Sophomore righthander Ryley Gilliam (Kennesaw, Ga.) was a USA Collegiate National Team training camp invitee, announced by USA Baseball.
Gilliam was one of 20 training camp players invited to join 14 previously identified athletes in a five-game series with teams in the Coastal Plain League and the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League before the 24-man roster is announced on Monday. One of the 14 players who already has a guaranteed spot on the USA Collegiate National Team is Seth Beer, who accepted an invitation in April and will play his second consecutive summer for Team USA.
The hard-throwing hurler became Clemson’s closer in 2017, as he was 3-1 with four saves, a 2.57 ERA, .225 opponents’ batting average and 50 strikeouts against 14 walks in 35.0 innings pitched over a team-high 27 relief appearances.
USA Baseball will name a 28-man roster to compete in a series against Chinese Taipei from June 27 to July 1 before its final 24-man roster will compete in international friendship series against Cuba (July 2-7) and Japan (July 12-17).
USA Baseball will stream all five games of the Chinese Taipei and Cuba series in North Carolina on USABaseball.com.
