4-star DL closing in on commitment?

With offers from Clemson, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee and others in tow, Bowling Green (Ky.) South Warren four-star defensive tackle Jacob Lacey is contemplating whether to make a decision before his junior season begins.

“I may just commit before the season,” Lacey told The Clemson Insider. “I have the schools I’m interested in, but I’ll probably just keep that between my family. I’m ready to focus on my high school team and teammates.”

Lacey (6-2, 300) picked up a coveted offer from Clemson while on campus for the Dabo Swinney Camp in early June.

Since then, the class of 2019 prospect has traveled to Stanford, Tennessee, Louisville and Vanderbilt, while Ohio State and Michigan could get visits in the coming weeks.

Stanford holds high appeal for Lacey but hasn’t yet offered.

“It was good,” he said of the Stanford visit. “Beautiful campus, excellent academics and unique in many ways. Glad I visited.”

Prior to the Clemson camp visit, Lacey attended Clemson’s junior day in March and also took in the Tigers’ game against Louisville last fall.

Clemson defensive line coach Todd Bates recently spoke with Lacey’s father.

“My dad talked to coach Bates on Tuesday (June 27) and that went great,” Lacey said. “I’m going to call July 17 and talk with him. Not sure when I’ll get back (to Clemson) but hopefully sooner than later.”

Lacey is turning his attention to certain schools, but might not make those schools known to the public before he renders a decision in the future.

“Truthfully I may put out a narrow list, but I’m not really the type that puts out lists or will shoot a video for a commitment,” he said. “The schools I’m focusing on, the schools and coaches known.”

Clemson is a safe bet to be on his short list, whether he releases it or not.

“Coach (Dabo) Swinney, (Brent) Venables and Bates are great men period, let along football coaches,” Lacey said. “They are spiritual men and care about their players.

So yeah, you can count Clemson as on that narrow list.”
