4-star DB considering Clemson visit before decision

Hampton (Ga.) Dutchtown four-star safety Trey Dean is looking to take a few more visits before he makes a decision at the end of the month, and a trip to Clemson could be in the works.

“Texas and probably Clemson and Florida State,” Dean said when asked what visits he is planning.

Dean, a top-15 safety and top-200 overall prospect by Rivals, is set to announce his commitment on July 31.

Last month, Dean (6-2, 180) narrowed his list of over 30 offers down to a top 10 of Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and UCLA.

Oklahoma hopes to enter the picture late after offering him last week. Clemson, meanwhile, is among other schools he has heard from.

Clemson co-defensive backs coach Mike Reed reached out to him before the dead period commenced in late June.

“They just really want me to visit,” Dean said.

Clemson hasn’t yet offered, but he said it isn’t too late for the Tigers should that change.

“It is not too late,” he said. “They would definitely be in the mix.”

What does he like about Clemson?

“Their will to win and how they play the game of football,” he said.

Dean has visited Georgia, Texas, Michigan and Notre Dame thus far this summer.

Rivals ranks him as the No. 14 safety and No. 174 prospect in the 2018 class.
