Clemson offer an ‘unbelievable feeling’ for 4-star

On Wednesday, Clemson extended offers to a pair of four-star teammates in the 2019 class from Trinity Catholic in Saint Louis, Mo.

One of the recipients was linebacker Shammond Cooper.

“Right before practice coach called and told me that I had it,” Cooper told The Clemson Insider.

Clemson’s offer is one of the more than two dozen on Cooper’s list, which includes the likes of Auburn, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Cooper is used to getting high-profile offers, but getting one from the defending national champions felt special to him.

“It was unbelievable feeling knowing that they just won the national championship,” he said. “It was just great all around.”

What does Cooper think of Clemson’s program from what he knows about it?

“It feels like somewhere I can go and be a part of something special,” he said.

Cooper said he plans to check out Clemson after picking up the offer.

His teammate, four-star athlete Isaiah Williams, was also excited to receive his offer from the Tigers according to Cooper.

“We both know that the university is historic,” Cooper said, “so we know how special it is to have an offer from them.”

As a sophomore last season, Cooper recorded 141 tackles, including seven tackles for loss, along with four sacks and an interception.

Williams, meanwhile, threw for more than 4,000 yards and 44 touchdowns while rushing for nearly 1,500 yards and 25 more scores. He also had a pair of interceptions on defense.

247Sports ranks both prospects among the top five in their state and top 150 in their class regardless of position.
