Clemson offer would hit home with 4-star DB

Clemson safeties coach Mickey Conn traveled to the Peach State on Friday to check out a couple of prospects on the Tigers’ radar for the next recruiting cycle.

Roswell (Ga.) four-star defensive back Tyron Hopper and his team went up against four-star safety Joseph Charleston and Milton (Ga.) High at Milton on Friday night.

“He let me know he was going to be there but couldn’t speak (due to NCAA rules),” Hopper told The Clemson Insider.

A few weeks before, Hopper made his first game-day visit to Clemson for the Auburn clash on Sept. 9.

“It was great. I love the atmosphere,” Hopper said. “I didn’t have time to stay after and talk (to the coaches), but coach (Brent) Venables invited me.”

The reason Hopper wasn’t able to speak with Clemson’s staff is because he left right afterward to go home and spend time with his mother, who lives in Gaffney, S.C. Hopper transferred from Gaffney High to Roswell during the offseason and resides with his uncle there.

Hopper (6-2, 190) holds offers from Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennessee among others.

Should Clemson join the mix with an offer in the future, it would hit home and be especially meaningful for Hopper considering he grew up about an hour and a half away from the school in Gaffney.

“It would mean a lot to me just to be back home down in South Carolina with my parents,” Hopper said. “I’m not saying I would go, but (Clemson) would be a top look.”

Hopper is fond of Clemson, and so are his parents.

“They love it,” he said.

Hopper hopes to return to Clemson for the Tigers’ game against Florida State on Nov. 11.

He is ranked among the top-15 safeties and top-250 overall prospects in the 2019 class.
