This weekend No. 2 Clemson celebrated homecoming as it welcomed the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to town for a 28-14 victory.
Homecoming, Clemson’s 94th, brings a different atmosphere to Clemson as alumni come home, students spend the week preparing floats out on Bowman Field and building a home with Habitat for Humanity. The week raps up with Tigerama, which was held Friday night in Death Valley.
The cloudy weather with the on-and-off again drizzle Saturday brought did not dampen the spirits of the Tiger fans or the excitement surrounding Homecoming, which buzzed throughout the tailgates all over campus.
Jasmine Sullivan traveled from Spartanburg, S.C., with her husband to watch the Tigers play.
“Homecoming is so special to us, we always try and make the Homecoming game each year,” she said. “We love to look at the floats and attend Tigerrama. It is always fun to come to the games and to be able to cheer on the Tigers.
“They are doing so well this year and the way that the Tigers have been playing it makes it even more fun to come because the fans just feed off the electricity that the players exhibit. Coming off a National Championship season, I expect that this year’s homecoming will be nothing short of amazing.”
Jasmine’s husband, John added, “I really enjoy the homecoming atmosphere, there is just something about coming home to Clemson that makes it worth it. Seeing the happiness on everyone’s face when the Tigers take the field and just to be in Death Valley, as the stadium gets loud and everyone gets up and starts to cheer, I am especially very excited for this year like Jasmine said, coming off a National Championship season.
“The fans have always shown up and showed out this year at each of the games. I am excited to see how this game turns out.”
More than 81,500 fans packed Clemson Memorial Stadium as the Tigers improved their homecoming record to 71-20-3 all-time. The Tigers are 41-4-2 on homecoming since the 1971 season.
