Friday Night Lights

How did Clemson’s commitments perform in their games on Friday night? The Clemson Insider has you covered with the top performances from future Tigers in Week 8:

After missing six weeks with a Jones fracture in his right foot suffered in Week 2, Braden Galloway returned with a flourish on Friday. Galloway is committed to Clemson as a tight end, but plays quarterback for Seneca (S.C.) and led his team to a 31-21 win over Walhalla.

Galloway completed 7-of-15 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He threw for a 33-yard score in the first half before beginning the second half with an 80-yard touchdown strike.

After Friday, five-star commit Trevor Lawrence is just 120 yards and six touchdowns away from breaking former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson’s Georgia high school records. Lawrence paced Cartersville (Ga.) to a 63-0 win over Sandy Creek, passing for 284 yards and four touchdowns on a 15-of-19 clip. Lawrence also rushed four times for 81 yards, including a 68-yard run.

Lawrence’s 284 yards gave him 12,961 for his career and moved him past Jake Fromm into second place behind Watson on the all-time Georgia high school passing yards list.

Clemson wide receiver commit Derion Kendrick plays quarterback for South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.), and like Lawrence, he was efficient. Kendrick went 11-of-16 passing for 125 yards and two scores in South Pointe’s 45-10 win over Lancaster. He threw touchdowns of 40 and 5 yards, and also rushed for 60 yards on six attempts.

Kendrick’s teammate and fellow Clemson commit B.T. Potter scored eight points in South Pointe’s victory. He made five extra points and connected on a 36-yard field goal.

Clemson defensive back commit Kyler McMichael, who sees a lot of time at running back for Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, Ga.), scored a couple of touchdowns in his squad’s 61-14 win at Lumpkin County. McMichael opened the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown run and added a 7-yard touchdown scamper in the second quarter.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker commit Jake Venables logged seven tackles, including three for loss, three quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery in Daniel (Central, S.C.)’s 21-7 loss at Belton-Honea Path.

Defensive end commit Justin Mascoll recorded five tackles and a pair of sacks for South Gwinnett (Snellville, Ga.) in its 19-14 win at Rockdale County.

Clemson defensive tackle commit Darnell Jefferies and Newton (Covington, Ga.) had a bye this week, as did Clemson commits Mike Jones and Xavier Thomas of IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and Josh Belk of Lewisville (Richburg, S.C.).
