Clemson is looking for Donte Grantham to take the next step as a senior.

The 6-foot-8 forward and former top-150 prospect has shown flashes of his potential but has been too passive in the past. This year, the Tigers want to see Grantham become the guy they can lean on.

“Donte was really good as a freshman, kind of took a step as a sophomore and then kind of leveled out as a junior,” his position coach Steve Smith told The Clemson Insider. “Now, so far, he’s taken another step as a senior. He’s not one of these guys that’s an ‘alpha male,’ where he’s just going to come out there and wants to be the guy. He’s a great kid, going to do everything you want as a coach, teammates love him. But just his consistency has been a problem because he’s always been a guy that defers, and we don’t need him to defer because he’s talented enough to be the guy.

“He should be one of the most talented players in the ACC. Lot of NBA teams have come in to see him. They really, really like him. They see his size, his length, his skillset, and they say coach, this guy, he’s got a chance to be one of the best players, and we think he does. But he’s got to consistently show it.”
