5-star says Clemson is ‘a first-class experience’

Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School’s Jacolbe Cowan is one of the premier sophomore prospects in the country. The five-star defensive end has close to 20 scholarship offers in tow already, with prominent programs such as Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame and Penn State lining his list.

Clemson is among other schools showing interest in the Tar Heel State standout. Though Cowan doesn’t yet have an offer from the Tigers, he said it seems like that isn’t the case.

“I think Clemson is a great school with an amazing fan atmosphere,” Cowan told The Clemson Insider. “Even though I do not have an offer from Clemson, it feels like I do because every time I step foot on campus I have a first-class experience.”

Cowan (6-5, 250) visited Clemson for the first time back in March when he attended the program’s junior day.

He returned to campus earlier this season to watch the Tigers’ 14-6 win over Auburn in Death Valley.

“The Clemson visit was great,” Cowan said. “The atmosphere was energetic as usual.”

Clemson defensive line coach Todd Bates has struck up a good rapport with Cowan early in his recruiting process.

“Coach Bates and I are developing a great relationship,” Cowan said. “He just wants me to remain humble and to keep working hard.”

Cowan is sure to add plenty more offers before it’s all said and done.

Clemson would figure to stack up well on his list if it enters the mix.

“I do not have any leaders currently, but there are a few schools that have stood out to me, Clemson being one of them,” Cowan said.

Besides Clemson, Cowan has been to North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Georgia this season.

Through seven games this season, Cowan had 24 tackles, including eight tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

He is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 strong-side defensive end and No. 7 overall prospect in the class of 2020.
