Cain leaves Clemson with good memories

In just three short years, Tampa area native Deon Cain left his mark on the Clemson Football as one of the program’s top receivers.

As Cain forgoes his senior season and moves on with life in preparation for the 2018 NFL Draft, his exciting moments as a Tiger will not be forgotten.

During his Clemson career Cain caught 130 passes for 2,040 yards and ranks fifth in Clemson history with 20 career touchdowns. During the 2017 season, he had 58 receptions, which was a career high, for a total of 734 yards. His longest touchdown of this season was a 61-yard catch which came in the Tigers’ home opener against Kent State.

“I will forever reminisce on the exciting moments I’ve experienced through my three years of being a Tiger,” Cain said. “It’s been a fun journey with my brothers and coaches. Three ACC Championships, one National Championship and three College Football Playoff appearances.”

Although Cain did not have as much success this season as he was projected to have, he still played a major role in the success of Clemson’s offense and was voted as Third-Team All-ACC this past year. He is projected to be taken off of the board between the third and fifth rounds of the draft.

Very few college athletes have the privilege of experiencing a championship, let alone three conference titles and a National Championship. Cain was certainly one of the players that helped build and continue the winning tradition at Clemson.

“Traveling all over the states winning games and creating a winning culture in Death Valley,” he said. “I’m going to miss running down the hill on those rocking Saturday night games. Clemson has the best fans in the nation. Thank you for your support every Saturday.”

As he leaves Clemson with so many treasured football memories, some of the most valuable ones are the friends and relationships he’s established over the last three years.

“I want to thank God and Coach (Dabo) Swinney and the rest of Clemson football staff for giving a passionate kid from Tampa an opportunity to accomplish my goals and dreams,” Cain said. “I’m thankful for the people and friends I’ve made and met here and the fun times we shared.”

There are countless friends, mentors and coaches who have aided in the success Cain has had thus far in his life, but if he knows one thing, it is that he would not be where he is today without his family.

“I want to thank my family for their support and making sacrifices for me,” he said.
