Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. is one of the best young prospects in the Midwest.
Just a sophomore in the class of 2020, Johnson already has a list of close to 20 scholarship offers highlighted by top-tier programs such as Clemson, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State.
Johnson (6-7, 275) is looking to check out a number of schools this offseason, including Clemson.
“I have more (visits) coming up,” Johnson told TCI. “Clemson is on my list for visits.”
Clemson extended its offer to Johnson in December.
Johnson said he will make his first visit to Tiger Town in the spring.
“I will be at Clemson in the spring,” he said. “I am looking forward to meeting the coaching staff, seeing the facilities, and catching up with my former teammate, current Clemson Tiger, Matthew Bockhorst.”
Bockhorst and Johnson played together at St. Xavier for one season before Bockhorst, a former four-star offensive lineman, signed with Clemson in 2017.
Johnson said he has been communicating frequently with his former teammate.
“I’ve heard great things about the coaches and program,” Johnson said. “I am looking forward to my visit.”
Johnson thinks highly of Clemson from what he knows heading into the visit this spring. He is eager to see and learn more about the school and program.
“Their academics are rigorous and their football program is unbelievable,” Johnson said.
Johnson isn’t claiming any favorites early in his recruitment, but Clemson figures to remain in the mix for the long haul. Johnson has the size, athleticism and physical tools that will make him a highly sought after prospect at a premium position like offensive tackle. He has a lot of upside and is just scratching the surface of his potential.
