4-star Carolina prospect planning Clemson visit

Monroe (N.C.) four-star Traevon Kenion is a nationally ranked recruit and one of the top prospects in the Tar Heel State for the 2019 class.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect has picked up close to a dozen offers. Louisville, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Kansas State and Maryland are among the schools that have offered, while Clemson is one of several other schools showing interest.

Kenion has lined up all over the field for Monroe High, everywhere from wide receiver and quarterback to running back and defensive end. According to Kenion, Clemson is looking at him more as a defensive end.

Members of Clemson’s coaching staff stopped by Kenion’s school during the contact period in January.

“They came to my school to talk to my coach but I wasn’t allowed to talk to them,” Kenion told TCI. “(My coach) told me that they wanted me to come to their junior day.”

Clemson’s next junior day is scheduled for March 3, and Kenion is planning to be present.

“I know for a fact I’ll be attending Clemson’s junior day,” he said.

Kenion has visited Clemson each of the last two summers to compete at the Dabo Swinney Camp. He’s hoping to learn more about the school and program when he’s on campus in the spring.

“I really want to get to know more about the university and what great things it offers,” he said.

Besides the schools that have offered, Kenion said Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky and a couple of others are showing interest along with Clemson.

If the Tigers pull the trigger on an offer in the future, Kenion said “it would mean a lot.”

“I’ve always loved Clemson since I was a kid, and it’s also a great school,” he said. “The athletics there are great, and every time I’ve been there I was always comfortable.”

Kenion is ranked as the No. 5 prospect in North Carolina and No. 203 overall prospect in the 2019 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
