Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity four-star athlete Steele Chambers has around two dozen scholarship offers and is being heavily recruited by a host of high-profile programs, including Clemson.
The class of 2019 prospect received an offer from Clemson last October, and he continues to communicate frequently with defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
“I hear regularly from coach Venables,” Chambers told The Clemson Insider. “They want me to get there for another visit.”
Chambers (6-2, 210) visited Clemson for the Auburn and Florida State games last season. He had planned to return for Clemson’s elite junior day in January but was unable to make it.
“I really need to get out to Clemson,” Chambers said. “I was bummed I missed the last visit.”
Another Clemson visit is in the works for Chambers, who also plays baseball for Blessed Trinity.
“Coach is sending me the schedule so I can plan a visit around baseball,” he said. “I have out-of-town visits schedule now, but Clemson is easy to get to.”
Currently, Chambers has upcoming visits planned for Notre Dame, Alabama, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan as well as Stanford later this summer.
All of those schools with the exception of Alabama have offered Chambers. He also holds offers Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, North Carolina, Penn State, South Carolina and Tennessee, among others.
Clemson is in a strong position with Chambers right now as one of the schools in his lead group.
“I have a top 7, and Clemson is in the top three of that list,” he said.
Chambers said he would like to commit by Aug. 1.
Clemson offered Chambers as a linebacker, while other schools are recruiting him as a running back.
As a junior last season, Chambers rushed for 1,350 yards on 190 carries and totaled 1,600 all-purpose yards with 27 touchdowns. He also had 55 tackles on defense while helping lead Blessed Trinity to the Georgia Class 4A state championship.
