Warwick (R.I.) Bishop Hendricken School four-star Xavier Truss is one of the biggest offensive tackle prospects in the 2019 class at 6-foot-7, 325 pounds.
Truss is also one of the fastest-rising prospects in the country, having collected 26 scholarship offers so far in 2018.
A day after visiting Clemson last week, Truss picked up an offer from the Tigers.
“It means a lot to me,” Truss said of the offer. “It shows me that they believe in me to be the man both on and off the field, that they think I can be.”
Truss spent last Wednesday at Clemson as part of a Southeast trip that also included stops at Georgia, Alabama and Auburn. He went to Penn State on Monday as well.
Clemson didn’t fail to impress during his time on campus.
“I loved everything about it,” Truss said. “I was really impressed.”
What stood out to him the most about the experience?
“Seeing how much of a community that the people of the campus were actually a part of,” Truss said. “I went there thinking that Clemson was a large football school when in reality it’s a smaller academic and athletic community.”
Truss spoke extensively with Clemson offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell throughout the day.
“(There was) a stress on academics and life after football from coach Caldwell,” Truss said.
Truss’s long list of offers features Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Southern Cal, Tennessee and others.
Clemson is in a great position with Truss right now after getting him on campus and extending the offer.
“Top 5,” he said. “For sure.”
Truss said he anticipates taking an official visit to Clemson in the future. He is likely to sign in December but will not enroll early at his school of choice.
