Clemson plays eight bowl teams who finished with winning records in 2017 according to the 2018 football schedule.
The Tigers play their fourth game of the season on Sept. 29 against Syracuse at Memorial Stadium.
Here is a sneak peak at the 2018 Syracuse Orange heading into spring practices.
Who: Syracuse – September 29, 2018 at Clemson Memorial Stadium.
Last meeting: Syracuse defeated Clemson 27-24 last season in Syracuse, NY.
Last season: Syracuse struggled last season with a 4-8 record, but it did keep Clemson from having an undefeated 2017 regular season. It was Syracuse’s last win of the year, ironically.
Coaching staff: Dino Babers enters his third season as head coach
Additions: As of February 23, the Orange hired new coaches to the football program including quarterbacks coach Kirk Martin, graduate assistant offense Tim McAuliffe, offense quality control Travis Greene, recruiting quality control John Gunter, assistant strength and conditioning coaches Sean Teter and David Scorzelli.
Changes: Mike Lynch will serve as the team’s sole offensive coordinator and running backs coach this season after sharing those responsibilities with quarterbacks coach Sean Lewis, who left to be the head coach at Kent State. Justin Lustig will coach the outside receivers and tight ends coach Reno Ferri will coach inside receivers. Kim McCloud will coach cornerbacks while Nick Monroe will coach safeties. Mike Cavanaugh will coach the offensive line.
Returning players: Eric Dungey is completely healthy again and will return as Syracuse’s quarterback this season. Senior running back Dontae Strickland injured his hamstring last season, but will be returning as well. Joining Strickland will be junior running back Moe Neal and sophomore running back Chris Elmore. Wide receiver Sean Riley, defensive back Devin Butler, and tight end Ravia Pierce will all return for the Orange and likely make significant contributions.
Additions: Syracuse added three players to the bunch of 15 who signed in December, two running backs and a defensive lineman. The biggest addition will be junior running back Abdul Adams who transferred this season from Oklahoma. The Orange also brought on three more running back walk-ons.
Subtractions: The Orange will lose offensive tackle Liam O’Sullivan who retired from football due to multiple concussions, walk-on linebacker Adam Dulka transferred to Kent State, defensive back Anthony Lombardi transferred to Sacred Heart, safety Rodney Williams is a graduate transfer, and long snapper Nathan Hines as well as tight end Joe Pasquale are also no longer on the team. Syracuse also lost All-ACC wide receivers Ervin Phillips and Steve Ishmael.
