Elliott impressed with newcomers on offense

With a new season comes the opportunity for new members of the team to earn their stripes. For Clemson, co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott has been impressed with the freshmen early enrollees on offense that are going through their first spring practice.

Elliot said offensive lineman Jackson Carman, quarterback Trevor Lawrence and wide receiver Derion Kendrick are all competing in spring practice and pushing the veteran players as well.

While the first two days of practice have been more mental than physical, Elliot has seen Carman really move his feet well. He also noted that Lawrence is just “as advertised” with his ability to move and throw while remaining very poised as a freshman. Finally, he compared Kendrick to former Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, noting that he looks very natural in the position he is in and when he takes off the line he moves at a different speed, really pushing the other wide receivers to compete with his explosiveness.

“The young guys that just got here, you can see why those guys were ranked where they were ranked nationally,” Elliott said.
