After two spring practices, and a small look at what can be expected from the Clemson defense in 2018, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables noted that there is a lot of work to be done.
With a veteran roster on defense, his players understand the toughness and mindset that it takes to develop and be successful, the tempo they are expected to practice with each day and the accountability that comes with playing on the field. Even with the veteran roster, there is still a lot of coaching for Venables to do.
“We have a lot of work to do, but a lot of bodies that should know what to do,” Venables said. “Now we have to go out and attack our weaknesses and improve.”
Venables noted that he does not feel confident about the depth at the cornerback position and sees gaps in both that corner position and the safety position that will need to be filled.
