During his radio call-in show Monday night, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney revealed that the Tigers are no longer planning to redshirt this true freshman wide receiver.
“We took the redshirt off of Ronan (Hanafin),” Swinney said. “He actually played all last week, played special teams for us, and we’re going to continue. We just feel like he just brings a lot of value to us and he’s going to just keep getting better.”
A former four-star prospect, Hanafin is a versatile athlete who contributed in a variety of ways at Massachusetts’ Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, beginning his prep career at cornerback as a freshman before playing receiver and linebacker/safety most of his career. He also returned punts.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder, who enrolled at Clemson this past summer, made his college debut vs. Charleston Southern (nine snaps) and contributed on special teams vs. both Florida Atlantic and Florida State.
Swinney added that the Tigers still want to redshirt true freshmen receivers Noble Johnson and Misun “Tink” Kelley.
“We’re definitely, right now, still trying to redshirt Noble, and also trying to redshirt Misun Kelley,” Swinney said. “We’re hoping we can get maybe another couple games out of Misun, but we’ll see what happens.”
