Brown Will Do ‘Whatever It Takes’ to Help Tigers Win

CLEMSON — The Clemson Tigers have gone through adversity as a whole, but the wide receiver room is dealing with some of their own. After losing Cole Turner for the season, Antonio Williams missed the Florida State game.

While this would normally start a panic, freshman Tyler Brown has stepped up and a made a case as the best receiver on the team. Against Florida State, he finished with a team-high five catches for 84 yards.

Included in those numbers was a diving 28-yard grab that set up Clemson in the red zone. When he made the catch, he came down on his shoulder and it seemed like it could’ve been an injury that kept him out of the game.

That was never going to be the case as Brown came right back in. During his availability Tuesday, he talked about the fall and how he responded.

“Definitely a painful fall, man, but when that adrenaline’s running in a close game like that, you’re thinking about one thing and that’s winning, man. You just really got to play through things like that for sure,” Brown said.

On the play, Brown was sprinting full speed when he leaped to snare the football and when he came down, it was a somber tone in Death Valley considering his value to this Tigers team.

Through the first four games, Brown is the second-leading receiver for Clemson with 12 catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns. For him, there was never a doubt he was going to keep playing because winning was on his mind.

“If I’m calling these boys my brothers and I’m saying that I would put my life on the line for them each and every day, I got to show that so I’m going to do whatever it takes for sure,” Brown said.

Through four weeks, Brown has proved his value and head coach Dabo Swinney would appreciate but maybe be a bit hesitant with his freshman receiver’s sentiment because of his value. While this game didn’t turn out how Brown and Clemson wanted, the young talent can help the Tigers get this season back under control.
