Syracuse HC on Clemson: ‘We Like Playing Those Guys’

Syracuse head coach Dino Babers met with the media this week ahead of Saturday’s game against Clemson.

Babers made it clear that his team is excited about the chance to compete against the Tigers.

“We like playing those guys. They’ve beaten us a lot, but we feel like we like playing them,” Babers said. “We know that they’re the best, and it gives you an opportunity to go against the best.”

The Orange enter their ACC opener on Saturday with an unblemished 4-0 record, while the Tigers are 2-2 heading to Syracuse and hoping for their first ACC win of 2023 following an 0-2 start in conference play.

Despite how this season has gone for Clemson so far with the losses to Duke and Florida State, Babers believes the Tigers are “still a championship-caliber team.”

“They were, I don’t know, 6, 12 inches from winning the game (vs. FSU) this week. They beat them statistically in every category,” Babers said. “They beat Duke statistically in every category. This is what they are. This is a championship, big-time football team coming in here.”

Kickoff of Saturday’s game at JMA Wireless Dome is set for noon on ABC.

Babers says his players won’t need any extra motivation from the coaching staff as they get ready to take on the Tigers.

“I think the team has exactly the right attitude,” he said. “We look at everything 1-0… The coaches will lay out the game plan. We will do actually almost nothing when it comes to motivation this week. They enjoy playing this team, and we always get the best out of that team when we play them. The biggest thing is for the guys that are in here that’s never played (against Clemson) before, and for those guys to figure it out this week that they need to step up their game because they’re playing one of the top teams in the conference.”
