This Week in the ACC: Tigers look for 15th Straight Win Over Wake

CLEMSON – Each week The Clemson Insider takes a deep dive into the weekend matchups in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

This Saturday the Clemson Tigers take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at 3:30 p.m. in the Tigers only home game in the month of October.

Here is what is on the slate this week in the ACC.

Saturday

Boston College (2-3) at Army (2-2), Noon, CBSSN

Latest Line: Army -3

What to watch for: Boston College leads the all-time series 25-13 over the Army Black Knights. BC quarterback Thomas Castellanos ranks 26th in the nation with 78 points responsible for. The Black Knights are playing their second straight ACC foe, having fallen at Syracuse, 29-16, on Sept. 23.

William & Mary (4-1) at Virginia (0-5), Noon, ACCN

Latest Line: N/A

What to watch for: Virginia has lost eight straight games dating back to last season. UVA is 0-5 for the first time since 1982, the first year of Hall of Fame coach George Welsh. William and Mary head coach Mike London returns to UVA for the third time since being the head coach at Virginia from 2010-15.

Marshall (4-0) at NC State (3-2), 2 p.m., The CW

Latest Line: NCSU -6.5

What to watch for: NC State is making a change at quarterback going from Brennan Armstrong to sophomore MJ Morris. Last season Morris became the first freshman quarterback since Phillip Rives to start at quarterback for the Wolfpack. NC State is 5-0 all time against the Marshall Thundering Herd. Marshall enters the game as one of 22 remaining undefeated teams in FBS this season.

Syracuse (4-1, 0-1) at No. 14 North Carolina (4-0, 1-0), 3:30 p.m., ESPN

Latest Line: UNC -8.5

What to watch for: Through four games this season, North Carolina is averaging a whopping 35.8 points per game. Syracuse, who got off to a 4-0 start for the second consecutive year, is looking to avoid a 0-2 start in ACC play.

Virginia Tech (2-3, 1-0) at No. 5 Florida State (4-0, 2-0), 3:30 p.m., ABC

Latest Line: FSU -24

What to watch for: Florida State and Virginia Tech are both entering Saturday’s contest undefeated in ACC play. The Hokies defense held Pitt to just 38 rushing yards last time out, while the offense amassed over 400 yards of total offense. Jordan Travis has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 16 consecutive games, FSU’s longest stretch since 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston.

Wake Forest (3-1, 0-1) at Clemson (3-2, 1-2), 3:30 p.m., ACCN

Latest Line: Clemson -21

What to watch for: Clemson and Wake Forest will look to live up to the double-overtime thriller last season that saw the two teams combine for 96 points. Clemson is in search of its 15th straight win against Wake Forest. Wake Forest is coming off an open week after a home loss to Georgia Tech two weeks ago in its ACC opener.

 

No. 10 Notre Dame (5-1) at No. 25 Louisville (5-0), 7:30 p.m., ABC

Latest Line: ND -6.5

What to watch for: Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm is the second UofL head football coach to begin his coaching career with a 5-0 record, joining Tom King. The Cardinals bring a seven-game home winning streak into Saturday’s game versus the Fighting Irish. The two quarterbacks, Jack Plummer and Sam Hartman have combined to throw 25 touchdown passes and for 2,864 passing yards this season.

Georgia Tech (2-3, 1-1) at No. 17 Miami (4-0, 0-0) 8 p.m., ACCN

Latest Line: Miami -21

What to watch for: The last three meetings between Georgia Tech and Miami have been decided by just one score. The Yellow Jackets are in search of their third-straight win over a nationally ranked ACC opponent on the road. The Hurricanes lead the ACC in scoring offense and are second in scoring defense, which both rank in the top 12 nationally.
