Kirk Herbstreit showed some love to Clemson defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin coming off his unit’s strong performance in the Tigers’ 17-12 win over Wake Forest this past Saturday.
Herbstreit, ESPN’s lead college football analyst, takes to social media each week with who he sees as the top performing players, coaches and teams from that particular week of the season.
After Week 6, Goodwin was named by Herbstreit as one of his top performing coaches.
Herbstreit ranked Goodwin at No. 3 on the list behind only Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables and Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm, who led their teams to huge wins over Texas and Notre Dame, respectively.
This past Saturday, Goodwin guided a Clemson defense that held Wake Forest to 239 yards and 12 points after the Tigers gave up 447 yards and 45 points to the Demon Deacons a year ago.
Goodwin’s defense set the tone to lead the Tigers (4-2, 2-2 ACC) over Wake Forest at Memorial Stadium, where the unit tallied eight tackles for loss, four sacks, a fumble recovery and yielded just 2.6 yards per rush on 39 carries. Additionally, Clemson allowed only two third down conversions on 12 attempts, and the Tigers kept Wake Forest out of the end zone for the first 58 minutes of the game.
