Riley: ‘Big Week’ for This Receiver

Clemson offensive coordinator Garrett Riley met with the media on Monday and spoke about a sophomore wideout who has seen his playing time fall off over the last couple of weeks.

Riley said Adam Randall “needs to” get back into the rotation more at receiver after playing a season-low six snaps in last Saturday’s win over Wake Forest, one week after playing only seven snaps at Syracuse. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder didn’t register a reception in either of those games.

“Should’ve gotten him in more than what we did the other day (vs. Wake Forest),” Riley said. “Again, just kind of a little unrhythmic offensively just as far as our flow of the game. But he’s certainly a guy that needs to play more and get opportunity to play more.”

Prior to playing 13 total snaps across the last two games, Randall saw 68 snaps vs. Florida State, 30 snaps vs. Florida Atlantic, 51 snaps vs. Charleston Southern and 29 snaps in the season opener at Duke.

Overall, Randall has recorded seven catches for 78 yards in those six games (three starts). A former four-star and national top-125 prospect from Myrtle Beach, he had 10 grabs for 128 yards over 12 games (one start) as a true freshman last season after a torn ACL in spring practice limited him for 2022.

Riley said this is a “big week” for Randall as the Tigers go through their bye week before returning to action at Miami on Saturday, Oct. 21.

“Going to be a big week for all of us, but certainly for him to continue to improve and just be ready, be ready for Miami,” Riley said. “So, looking forward to that this week with all of our guys, but definitely with Adam.”
