Looking Ahead: Clemson’s QB youth sets up for future

CLEMSON – The quarterback position is always where it all starts and ends in football. For the Clemson Tigers, a little luck has helped them not have to worry about the position for over a decade.

It was Tajh Boyd, then it was Deshaun Watson taking over and winning a national championship. After his tenure, there was no drop-off with Trevor Lawrence coming in and doing the same himself.

Standards were set so high at the position but there was a bit of a mulling period with D.J. Uiagalelei. Now, Clemson appears to have their guy for the future with Cade Klubnik. As the Tigers continue to bring in elite quarterback talent, let’s take a look at the state of the position moving forward.

Who could return

Cade Klubnik (sophomore)

Paul Tyson (graduate senior)

Hunter Helms (graduate junior)

Christopher Vizzina (freshman)

2025 recruiting class

Four-star Blake Hebert (commit)

Five-star George MacIntyre

As the season comes to a close, it will be interesting to see what Hunter Helms’ plan is. As a graduate, he still has eligibility left and the former walk-on could find an opportunity to start elsewhere.

Beyond that decision, Clemson has a veteran voice in Paul Tyson and an otherwise young group. Note that the Tigers went without a quarterback in the 2024 class as of now, and it doesn’t appear to be a concern given the trust in Klubnik.

Heading to 2025, Blake Hebert’s commitment makes sure that isn’t a trend with no pledges this year. It’ll be key to watch if Clemson makes a push for George MacIntyre, or sticks with only Hebert and the young core.

Youth is king, and the Tigers have a ton of it at quarterback for the foreseeable future.
