This talented athlete from Virginia with a tie to Clemson traveled to Tiger Town last Saturday.
Oscar Smith High School (Chesapeake, Va.) 2026 wide receiver Travis Johnson, who holds several power conference offers, made an unofficial visit to Death Valley for the Wake Forest game.
“The highlight was the atmosphere,” Johnson said. “It was great.”
Added Johnson of the Death Valley environment during the Tigers’ 17-12 victory over the Demon Deacons: “It was crazy.”
“One of the craziest atmospheres I experienced,” he said.
It was the first trip to Tiger Town for the 6-foot-3, 170-pound sophomore, who has a connection to sophomore Clemson safety Sherrod Covil Jr. Like Johnson, Covil hails from Oscar Smith High, and the two have a good relationship.
“That’s my guy from Oscar Smith, man,” Johnson said. “He always shows love every time I see him!”
While on campus Saturday, Johnson had the chance to chat with Clemson assistant Mike Reed. Johnson believes the Tigers are interested in him, and he’s certainly interested in Clemson as well.
“I talked to Coach Reed, and he was just talking to me about Clemson,” Johnson said. “I know that they like my talent.”
Johnson said “a lot of schools have been showing love” to him early in the recruiting process. He’d love to add a future offer from Clemson to his offer list that already includes Duke, Florida, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others.
“It would be amazing,” he said of a potential offer from the Tigers. “I have been a huge Tiger fan since I was little.”
