Clemson Defense Better Because its Stronger

CLEMSON — Linebacker Wade Woodaz spoke to the media earlier this week to discuss last week’s win over Wake Forest and their week off this Saturday.

The sophomore had a lot to say about Clemson’s defensive performance, head coach Dabo Swinney’s input on the red zone defense and his own personal accomplishments as a player.

–The Clemson defensive unit allowed the Deacs one touchdown out of their five trips to the red zone. Swinney stressed he wanted to see better play from the defense when it came to red zone defense. “It’s been a point of emphasis throughout practice – improving red zone defense… Mistakes are magnified in the red zone.”

— Woodaz had two sacks on Wake Forest quarterback Mitch Griffis in the second quarter last week. “We made pretty good strides… We know the ability and skill that we have. A shutout is the goal every time that we step out onto the field.”

–The linebacker detailed the time he spent with sophomore offensive lineman Tristan Leigh over the summer. He discussed the work put in and the pointers given, while also saying, “One reason I think I’ve gotten better, is that I’ve gotten a lot bigger and stronger. I can use my hands now effectively, and I like being in the backfield and making things happen.”
