CLEMSON – The Clemson cornerback room may look vastly different in 2024. It’s a room led by veterans with Sheridan Jones and Nate Wiggins, but it’s very possible the Tigers are without both next season.
Jones is a graduate senior in his final season, but the decision is a bit more complex for Wiggins. Just a junior this year, the NFL is an option for him even given the injury that’s sidelined him for two straight games. He’s a prototype NFL corner at 6-foot-2, and he’s delivering a second strong season for Clemson.
If that pair is gone, we’ve seen strong moments from Jaedyn Lukus, Toriano Pride Jr. and Avieon Terrell. Similar to most of the defense, it’s graduates on top then freshmen and sophomores in the rotation. It sets the Tigers up well for the future, even if they lose Wiggins.
Who could be gone
Sheridan Jones (graduate)
Nate Wiggins (junior)
Who’s likely returning
Jaedyn Lukus (sophomore)
Toriano Pride Jr. (sophomore)
Avieon Terrell (freshman)
Shelton Lewis (freshman)
Brandon Strozier (freshman)
Myles Oliver (redshirt freshman)
2024 recruiting class
Four-star Corian Gipson (commit)
2025 recruiting class
Five-star Na’eem Offord (offered)
Four-star Blake Woodby (offered)
Three-star Timothy Merritt (offered)
Landing Gipson late in the 2024 cycle is key for the future, and adds another cog to the development machine cornerbacks coach Mike Reed has. Looking to 2025, Clemson got Merritt to Death Valley for the Florida State game, and continues to make a good push for his talents.
Work is still left to be done to round out the group, but the good news for the Tigers is how young the current roster is. Freshmen like Lewis and Strozier are yet to get a ton of playing time, but Clemson is built for the future at cornerback.
