What Grade Did Clemson Get at Season’s Midway Mark?

About halfway through the college football season, a national outlet handed out midseason grades to ACC teams, including Clemson.

CBS Sports gave the Tigers (4-2, 2-2 ACC) a grade of C+.

“Graded against the rest of the ACC, Clemson is firmly in the top half among its peers and boasts one of the best defenses in the country alongside an offense that seemed to find a groove by the end of September,” CBS Sports’ Chip Patterson wrote. “Grading Clemson by its own standard and the preseason expectations of ACC championship contention is a different story.

“The offense that seemed to be surging hit a bit of a rut against Wake Forest last week with its worst yards-per-play performance of the season. Another 10-win season is an attainable goal, but with a 2-2 ACC record to this point, another conference crown seems like a long shot.”

Following its open date this weekend, Clemson returns to action at Miami on Saturday, Oct. 21, before traveling to NC State on Oct. 28 and then returning home to host Notre Dame on Nov. 4.

Six ACC teams — Florida State (A), Louisville (A), North Carolina (A), Duke (A-), Miami (B) and Syracuse (B-) — received better midseason grades than the Tigers got from CBS Sports.
